Fanlisting

As suggested by the name, the point of a fanlisting is to gather together the highest possible amount of fans of a certain subject from around the world; joining is fast and easy, usually requiring only that you provide your name/alias and country. Innocentia, in particular, strives to spread the love for the 2003 film The Dreamers, and has been approved by The Fanlistings Network, the original webdirectory for fanlistings.

Name

I always thought that the film's French title, Innocents, was more accurate than the original: to me, The Dreamers is about the untainted innocence of youth; that short-lived, beautiful ability to believe that anything is possible that the characters, especially Théo and Isabelle, stand for.

Contrary to more close-minded people, I am sure that Bertolucci's true goal was to make everything in this film come down to innocence, not moral decadence (in fact, the two things are practically opposite): apart from the utopic political views, this also includes the comfort found in nudity by the characters, the sex, and every single other gorgeous detail. The Dreamers is a tribute to natural beauty; it is absolutely destitute of prejudice and pruderies, and, in that, it is as pure (and European) as it gets.

This film is almost mythological in its overwhelming moral and physical purity. I wanted the fanlisting name to allude to this quality because, to me, it is The Dreamers's greatest one. "Innocentia", being the Latin word for "innocence", offered obvious advantages: not only does it possess a nice classical sound, it is short and to the point. And no, an English expression wasn't even an option. It's just not that kind of movie.

Layout

It was back in late 2006 that the idea of building a fanlisting for The Dreamers first occurred to me. I had already applied, decided on the name and made some codes, but, unfortunately, my first year at the Faculty of Medicine became very demanding, and I had to give up on the whole project. In the meantime, however, my good online friend Lindsay had made me a lovely header image to use on the layout, and I thought I might as well keep it, just in case. Well, it's a good thing I did: when I once again came across it in the June of 2008, I decided that I couldn't just let it go to waste, and that's how Innocentia came to life at last.

Apart from some tweaks by me here and there, the header image you see is essentially the original work by Lindsay (whom, unfortunately, I can't possibly credit, since she's disappeared off the Web a long time ago); it features my favorite promotional picture of The Dreamers, which you can find in the gallery. This is a very simple layout, almost similar to my domain's (which served as inspiration), but I am really happy with it: I love what I achieved with the colors. Fonts used are Georgia and Arial, and the background pattern comes from Kollermedia.AT.
