auron

generally:
For some odd reason, when I see Auron and Rikku interact, it reminds me of a single-father and his annoying teenage daughter o_O. He often brushes Rikku off when she tries to talk to him (Thunder Plains - he couldn't care less if she was there or not, and threatened to leave her to the inn), but there are times when he stands up to her (Macalania Temple - when the priest forbids Rikku to enter because of her heritage, Auron says that she's a guardian and that's all that matters. Awww.).

Rikku looks up to Auron in the sense that he IS the legendary guardian. After a while Rikku gets tired of his rough treatment though, and is convinced he's just a (old and grumpy) man. Their beliefs really clash, but Auron is surprisingly understanding towards her - must be all the travelling he did.

romantically:
For the life of me, I cannot see where this pairing comes from. Rikku is a bouncy, hyper Al Bhed, and Auron is this really old guy, who was a monk...and he's an unsent. She's bubbly, he's quiet. Rikku wants to save Yuna's life and talks to her to stop ther pilgrimage, Auron just wants Yuna to continue to her doom. These two clash and just...just...look at their ages!

Of course, many think that opposites attract, but I can't get a single one scenario in my head, where these two could hit it off. Unless it's something cheesy like: 'Auron feels old, can Rikku bring his youthfulness back?' Or 'Auron is tired of being the sensible one, and finds himself drawn to Rikku's cheerfulness.' The latter one is really...eww.

Game-wise, Rikku might have had a small crush on the legendary guardian in the beginning, but his way of acting sure diminishes (sp?) those feelings pretty quick.
