ranting about the races

Some people have claimed Al Bhed to be a completely different race. I don't think so, but this is just my opinion.

There are different races in FF10/-2. The Hypello, Guado and Ronso for example. These can be categorized as different races, because they don't resemble humans or each other much (at all, actually). Each of these races has their own characteristics and they've grown to be the best in their natural habitat.

But with Al Bhed, this isn't so appealing. They look like ordinary humans, except all of them have blond hair and green eyes. Kinda like we have Europeans, Asians and Africans (sp?). It's part of their genes to have black or blond hair, blue or brown eyes, or different skin colors, but all of these people together make one big race. Not many different ones. But just because of these minor differences, some have categorizes Al Bhed as a completely different race. Does so little difference to normal humans make them non?

Now, as I was going throught an old map-book of sorts (from the 60's or something <-- old because the world has changed much since then), and it had muchos extra information besides the world map. It had stuff about minerals, outer space, and natural disasters. It also had a separate page for different human races. This means that at least 40 years ago blacks and whites were considered different races. Sort of a racial division among a race. Like we have many breeds of dogs and cats, we have many breeds of humans.

I don't know if this theory is valid today anymore, but it got me thinking. If even black and white humans are different breeds/races, does that apply to Spirans, too? All normal humans are arabian horses, while Al Bhed are lipizzaners? If you will allow me the horsey-symbolism.
