I've heard some pretty weird stuff about Rikku during the time I've been a fan. Afterwards it's kind of embarrassing to read about things that you speculated about the game before it's release, but at the time it was fun.

#1 Before the game's release we thought that Rikku's name wasn't actually Rikku. It was the first thing we heard her say in the japanese previews of the game. In the English version it's "cunno" (sorry in al bhed), but in the Japanese game it was "Zoren". Shame, it would've been a pretty name.

#2 Now some think that Keyakku was Rikku's brother.
I have no idea where this came from. It seems all the fanfiction writers out there think Keyakku is her brother. Keyakku is the guy that was killed when Guado attacked Home. Rikku ran to his dead body and shouted his name. Even Cid paid his condolenses. But it doesn't say anywhere that they were siblings...god knows Keyakku was just a family friend, since the Al Bhed seem to be a pretty tightly-knit community because of Yevon.
