Princess
Garnet til Alexandros XVII
Also known as Dagger, from Final Fantasy IX. Tifa and Garnet are alike, both physically and
mentally. As for their looks, a lot of people defend that Square has created a
pattern between Tifa, Rinoa, Garnet, and Yuna: I don't agree with that at all, but I
must say it does look like Square based Garnet's character on Tifa. Both girls have long dark hair (though Tifa's
is longer; but then again, she's taller, too, I believe), tied back in a
loose ponytail. Their face structure seems to be alike too, but then again, it is pretty much the same for every human
Final Fantasy character. Garnet's eyes are brown,
Tifa's are red; however, they look kind of brownish in some official art. Garnet's gloves also remind me of Tifa's a lot, and I associate red, the color,
with both girls. In battle they're quite different; Tifa is more of a
physical, frontline fighter, but can cast any magic or summon as long as she's
equipped with the respective Materia, while Garnet is a summoner and mage and
sucks at physical fighting. However, their personalities are, once again, a lot alike.
They're both shy and reserved, but while Tifa is more mature and experienced,
Garnet is still very naive and innocent (then again, she is four years younger). Their
clothes, however, are quite different (Tifa's are very exposing, the
opposite of Garnet's). On a side note, they both develop a crush on the
hero (Zidane in Garnet's case), but are very shy and reserved about their
feelings.
Rinoa
Heartilly
To tell the truth, I never really thought Rinoa and Tifa looked or acted
alike. Still, after reading a few articles on the subject, I started to notice some similarities between the two characters. Rinoa
Heartilly is the beautiful, outspoken heroine from Final Fantasy VIII. Contrary to
Tifa, she's open and cheerful, with a happy-go-lucky attitude. Personality wise, they're completely different: however, they do share some physical traits. First off, their hair: if Tifa's was
shorter and loose, it would look exactly like Rinoa's: the color is the same,
the style is the same; Rinoa does have some blonde highlights, though. Their
eyes aren't exactly alike, but they do have some similarities; while Rinoa's are
brown and look asian, Tifa's are big, round and red: however, they do seem
brownish in some official art, so my theory isn't
totally off. In battle, they're both good frontline fighters; Rinoa is
actually the strongest character in your party (excluding Laguna and Seifer): that is, without junctions, and physically talking. Both can summon or cast any
kind of creatures or magic, if given the respective materia (Tifa) or
if junctioned and/or drawn GF's and magic spells (Rinoa).
Quistis
Trepe
Quistis is a lot like Tifa, personality wise. She's extremely shy and
reserved and tends to bottle up her feelings a lot; maybe too much. Like Tifa, she tries hard to
please everybody else and worries much more about others than herself; both girls are extremely self-sacrificing. Even if something
bothers Quistis, she won't say a thing about it, because she can't easily open up to other
people. She hides her feelings inside, not letting them out to almost anybody: just like Tifa. They're both quiet and mature characters who don't mind
giving up on their loved ones for a friend's (or the person they love's) happiness. Also, they both develop huge crushes on the respective heroes during their childhood
that apparently last forever, but then somebody else comes along and "steals" them
from them: Rinoa in Quistis's case, Aerith in Tifa's. As in Tifa's situation with Cloud,
Quistis wasn't able to confess her true feelings to Squall for a long time, and,
when she did, it was way too late. They're both respected and admired by the rest of
the cast in their respective games: however, they do look quite differently; while
Tifa has dark hair and is red-eyed, Quistis is blonde and her eyes are clear blue. In
battle, they're both physically strong fighters, but, while Tifa fights with her own
fists, Quistis uses a whip. Their clothes
are completely different, too. Quistis is, in my opinion, Tifa's best clone,
personality wise: but the similarities end there.
Zell
Dincht
Umm... don't go back on your browser just yet. I know these two don't look
alike at all; to begin with, Zell is a guy, while Tifa is a woman, and a
very feminine one at that, too. Zell is blonde and blue-eyed; Tifa's hair is dark and
her eyes are red. Zell is hyper and open (more like Barret), Tifa is reserved
and calm. Yet, there are some similarites
between these two characters, other than both being in a Final Fantasy game. Tifa in battle. Zell in battle.
Zell's magic isn't exactly great, neither is Tifa's; but he's one of the best fighters
in FFVIII, as Tifa is in FFVII. They're both physically strong, both martial artists, both fight with their fists and both use gloves as weapons. See my point? Also, another "coincidence" (Square can be a genius when it comes to creating patterns between characters from different games):
Tifa's ultimate limit break is Final Heaven; Zell's is My Final Heaven.
Zell also happens to have Tifa's level 3 limit breaks as his own: Dolphin Blow and
Meteor Strike; but, while these are
two of the most powerful limit breaks Tifa can learn, you can teach them to Zell
pretty early in the game, with Combat King 001 and 002 respectively, and they
don't exactly cause major damage. See? I did have a point.
Momoi
Ryouko
Marmalade Boy, my favorite anime/manga
series ever. Ryouko is a teacher at Toryo High
School and also the girls' tennis coach. Her love life is a lot like Tifa's; she's been in love with this guy, Namura Shin'ichi, ever since their own
highschool times at Toryo High School. However, she's always been too shy to
confess her feelings for him, and they've grown up and become teachers without
him knowing about it at all. Ryouko is very mature and always acts professional
and supportive, often forgetting about herself to help others. Also, when she's
sad about something, she always keeps it to herself and avoids crying or opening
up to somebody else, causing herself to suffer much more. She was always very
dedicated to Namura: so dedicated that she didn't even notice her friend
Kijima's crush on her. But even if she had, she would have never loved him back,
since her heart was taken by Namura. She always hoped and believed that someday she would
finally get the courage to tell him about her feelings, and then they could be happy together. However... Namura
suddenly falls for a student, Akizuki Meiko, a beautiful and intelligent writer.
After going through a lot, Meiko and Namura end up getting
married. Obviously, all along, Ryouko felt extremely bad about it: yet, she
always,
always supported Namura, no matter what; she even helped him and Meiko get back together when they
once broke up for a very stupid reason. In the end, some weeks before Meiko and
Namura's wedding (in the anime version), he calls Ryouko to apologize, and she finally lets him know
how she had always felt about him: but she tells him to be happy with Meiko
anyway, and ensures him that she will be alright. Because of her love life, and
due to her introverted, supportive and self-sacrificing personality, I consider
Ryouko's role and character to be a lot like Tifa's.
Kino
Makoto
Jupiter
said: "She is my favourite character from the Anime series Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon
and is called Kino Makoto/Sailorjupiter. Firstly, Makoto and Tifa are both
underrated characters but that's not all that is similar. Makoto is a fighter
just like Tifa and is someone who trained in Karate. She had been kicked out of
her first school for supposedly fighting but according to the Manga version of
Sailormoon, she left her first school to forget about a boy XD. Makoto and Tifa
both are the motherly figures among their friends and can tell when people have
problems - therefore do their best to cheer them up. Makoto and Tifa know what
solitude is like since they lost family members. Makoto lost her parents in a
plane crash. Tifa and Makoto both have love interests. Tifa we all know has
Cloud on her mind ~_^ whilst Makoto thinks about a mysterious man who she calls
Sempai and constantly sees some parts of him in other guys (it doesn't mean
she's absolutely boy crazy though. It's down to tragic romance ;_;). IMO Tifa
and Makoto are both females who are shy around love and keep some of their inner
pain (whether it be down to heartache, depression or solitude) to themselves by
hiding it behind gentle faces. On the one hand they show their strengths well
when they are in battle or when someone they know is hurt. They seem like the
type who will defend their friends or the ones they love and stand out well
among their comrades, especially since they are female fighters."
My comments: Indeed, Makoto resembles Tifa in many ways. I happen to love
Sailor Moon
too, Makoto being one of my
favorite characters. I couldn't help but posting Jupiter's full comment here, since I
couldn't agree more with it than I already do.
