Rufus Shinra
Don't get me wrong, Rufus
is a nice character (though he doesn't particularly appeal to me), but let's face it, there are no grounds for a relationship between him and Tifa to ever happen, quite the opposite: she often displays and verbalizes her hate towards ShinRa, the organization Rufus is the new president of, and he never expresses any kind of affection or even attraction towards her (does he even know her name?). Furthermore, it seems to me that Rufus is way more interested in money and power than women at the moment, which causes the already low possibilities to drop below zero. Even when trying to see beyond all the cons of this hypothetical relationship, I still can't spot the pros anywhere: this couple just doesn't appeal to me, not even on a sexual level. Come on, people, you can do better.
Zack
Let me start off by warning you: the only person I enjoy seeing Zack paired up with is Cloud. Now, on to Zack and Tifa. Though I don't agree with the following view at all, I do understand why some people would say the only reason Aerith even crushed on Cloud was because he reminded her of Zack: however, how on Earth would Tifa be interested in Zack (who, by the way, is dead; people usually find weird ways to revive him in the pieces of fanfiction I've read so far) due to Cloud's "new" identity being his? Though I find it extremely unlikely that you haven't noticed this if you have indeed played the game, it
was the old Cloud from Nibelheim that Tifa fell in love with in the first place; she even finds his "Zack" identity weird. However, the hypothetical pairing up of these two wouldn't be so bad, though Tifa is still one of the last people I'd imagine Zack with: he has a few immature traits, while she's too shy. Could work, but not too likely to last long.
Sephiroth
Ah, Sephiroth, the sexy psycho that pretty much has caused, directly or not, all of the trouble in Tifa's life. I won't even get started on why this pairing is just plain wrong and horribly unlikely, or how Tifa's deep affection for Cloud stops me from imagining her psychologically or emotionally attached to Sephiroth, his ultimate antagonist; sadly enough, though, I do find this pairing appealing on a sexual level, because... well, let's not talk about my fetishes. Anyway, if Tifa and Sephiroth ever happened to develop feelings for each other out of the context of the game, they wouldn't look too bad together: they're both passionate people in what they do, though in obviously different ways (okay, the sexual part is explained), and neither of them comes out as immature or hyper. Hardly the most likely of possibilities, but definitely not as irritating as
some non-canon couples.
Vincent Valentine
I don't like Vincent. His supposedly deep, morbid personality has always hit me as lack of development and an unfortunate attempt at various clichés instead. With that said, let me add that I don't like the pairing of Vincent and Tifa
either, not even in a well thought-out fandom context. First off, their interaction in the game is pretty much unexistent, though that's mostly due to Vincent being an optional character: however, if they ever were to be together in a relationship, things would most likely be... well, quiet. I think their personalities are too much alike to begin with; although Tifa's is way more developed, they do share a few basic traits, they're both introverted and sort of "dramatic". Not a good combination when you want communication to work. Seriously, I don't see how people can picture Vincent paired up with anyone at all in a romantic way, but that might be due to my lack of appreciation towards his character, too. I admit I'm biased here.
